A wedding photographer is a big decision. With so many choices, how do you decide? Here are a couple of tips on how to choose the perfect wedding photography for you – get the facts?

Start early. Many good photographers are booked more than a month in advance. By starting early, you will get the best photographer and be able to select one that you enjoy.

Research. Ask for recommendations from friends and family, or attend expos. See as many photographs as possible and decide which style or styles you prefer.

LOVE their works. Choose a couple of photographers who have work that stands out for you. This is a highly personal decision because each photographer will have a different style.

Consultation. Be sure to schedule a consultation for you and your photographer to go over all the details. For an idea of what to expect, you should view albums from previous weddings. Albums from different weddings that have a “portfolio style” may not be the norm.

Ask Questions Prepare questions before meeting with the photographer. You may ask: How much does the deposit cost? Are (digital ) negatives included in the package? What is turnaround time for pictures? You can never ask a stupid question.

Sign the Contract. Sign a Contract. You should read and understand every detail of the contract. This will both protect you from future problems and help prevent misunderstandings.

Create an action list. Let your photographer know in advance if there are any requests. Certain requests may require a certain type of lighting or location, so you should let your photographer know in advance.
